Your Job
Molex Shanghai is seeking a Plating Engineer to join our Plating engineering (Plating Design) team. In this role, you will support the development, optimization, and qualification of plating processes used in connector manufacturing. You will work closely with product design, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure new and existing products can be manufactured efficiently while meeting customer and quality requirements.

Our Team
Our Plating engineering team is responsible for developing and maintaining plating processes that support product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency across connector production operations. We work closely with product development and manufacturing teams to introduce new products, improve production capability, solve technical challenges, and drive continuous process improvement.
The team combines chemistry, materials science, manufacturing engineering, and problem-solving expertise to develop innovative and cost-effective plating solutions for a wide range of connector applications.
What You Will Do
Support new product introduction (NPI) activities by evaluating plating process requirements and manufacturability.
Assist in designing and optimizing plating processes for new and existing products.
Collaborate with product design teams to ensure plating requirements are incorporated into product designs.
Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and manufacturing feasibility assessments.
Analyze plating-related risks during product development and support implementation of mitigation actions.
Investigate plating quality and manufacturing issues using structured problem-solving methods.
Assist in planning and conducting experiments to improve process performance, quality, and efficiency.
Support the development and qualification of new tooling, fixtures, and plating equipment.
Work with cross-functional teams including Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and Suppliers to achieve project objectives.
Create technical reports, process documentation, and work instructions to support manufacturing operations.
Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on yield improvement, cost reduction, and process capability enhancement.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrochemistry, or a related technical field.
Strong interest in electroplating, surface finishing, materials engineering, or manufacturing technology.
Knowledge of chemistry, materials science, or metallurgical fundamentals.
Ability to analyze technical problems and develop practical solutions.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Willingness to learn manufacturing processes and develop technical expertise in plating technology.
What Will Put You Ahead
Internship, research, laboratory, or project experience related to electrochemistry, plating, corrosion, surface treatment, metallurgy, or materials engineering.
Knowledge of connector manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, or precision metal components.
Experience conducting laboratory testing, experimentation, or data analysis.
Familiarity with statistical analysis, DOE, SPC, or quality improvement tools.
Experience using CAD software such as NX, AutoCAD, or other 2D/3D design tools.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, process control, or industrial engineering concepts.
Knowledge of gold, nickel, tin, silver, or palladium plating systems.
Experience working on engineering projects through university research or internships.
