Laboratory Introduction

The lab led by Dr. Chao Fengqing conducts research in statistical demography, Bayesian modeling, population estimation, reproductive health, public health, and related quantitative social and health sciences. The lab develops and applies rigorous statistical and computational methods to address important population and health questions.

The successful candidate will join an English-speaking, research-oriented environment and will work closely with the PI, PhD students, and collaborators on methodological and applied research projects.

Job Description

Candidate Requirements:

1. Abide by laws and regulations, exhibit sound ideological ethics and academic integrity, maintain physical and mental health, and have no illegal or disciplinary records. Foreign candidate shall be friendly towards China, respect Chinese customs and religious beliefs, and not interfere in China s internal affairs;

2. Hold a PhD degree within 3 years of graduation, age on/under 35;

3. No prior postdoctoral experience in Guangdong province.

Applicants should have:

1. Obtained a PhD degree closely related to PI s research, e.g. statistics, biostatistics, public health, demography, population studies, data science, computational social science, or other related quantitative fields.

Note: Applicants from China 985/211 universities or overseas highly ranked universities are especially encouraged to apply, but all applications will be evaluated based on research quality, fit, skills, and potential.

2. R coding at developer s level. Able to code in Python is a plus but not necessary.

Note: Experience with reproducible research workflows, version control such as Git/GitHub, package development, high-performance computing, Bayesian computation, Stan/JAGS/INLA, or statistical software development is desirable.

3. Must have good publication records and is able to conduct research independently.

Note: Evidence of strong research potential may include first-author publications, first-author preprints, first-author software packages, and a strong dissertation.

4. Able to communicate, write in English at the professional level.

Note: the working language is English only.

5. Strong interest in one or more of the lab s research areas, including statistical demography, Bayesian modeling, population estimation and projection, fertility, reproductive health, mortality, public and global health, or related areas.

6. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage research timelines, contribute to manuscripts and grant-related outputs, and maintain high standards of research integrity.

7. Experience with large-scale demographic, survey, administrative, health, or international database sources is a plus.

Job Duties include:

1. Contribute to the research agenda for the PI s lab via independent research where the postdoctoral fellow may serve as first author and the PI as coauthor, and collaborate with PI and other lab members/collaborators as a coauthor.

2. Collaborate and supervise PhD students and research assistants (as a coauthor).

3. Develop, implement, and document statistical models, computational tools, and data analysis pipelines in R and, where relevant, Python or other software.

4. Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at academic conferences, seminars, and workshops.

5. Participate in lab meetings, reading groups, collaborative research discussions, and other academic activities of the lab and university.

6. Contribute to grant proposals, project reports, data documentation, software documentation, and other research outputs when appropriate.

7. Maintain transparent, reproducible, and ethical research practices, including proper data management, code documentation, authorship practice, and compliance with relevant research ethics requirements.

8. Develop an independent research profile during the appointment, with support from the PI, including publications, conference presentations, collaborations, and future career planning.

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Salary will be comparable to international standards, commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Employee benefits will be provided according to the relevant labor laws of Mainland China as well as CUHK-Shenzhen regulations.

职位说明

应聘者须具备：

1. 已获得与PI研究方向密切相关的博士学位，例如统计学、生物统计学、公共卫生、人口学、人口研究、数据科学、计算社会科学，或其他相关定量研究领域。鼓励毕业于中国985/211高校或海外高水平大学的申请者申请；但所有申请均将基于研究质量、研究方向契合度、技能水平和发展潜力进行综合评估。

2. 具备开发者水平的R语言编程能力。具备Python编程能力者优先。具有可复现研究工作流程、Git/GitHub等版本控制、R包开发、高性能计算、贝叶斯计算、Stan/JAGS/INLA，或统计软件开发经验者优先。

3. 具有优秀的发表记录，并能够独立开展研究。体现较强研究潜力的材料可包括第一作者论文、第一作者预印本、第一作者软件包，以及高质量博士论文等。

7. 具有大规模人口学数据、调查数据、行政数据、健康数据或国际数据库使用经验者优先。

工作职责包括：

1. 通过独立研究为PI实验室的研究作出贡献。博士后研究员可作为第一作者、PI作为合作者发表研究成果；同时，也将作为合作者与PI及其他实验室成员/合作研究者共同开展研究。

2. 与博士生和研究助理合作，并在适当情况下对其进行指导和监督，并作为合作者参与相关研究。

3. 使用R语言，并在相关情况下使用Python或其他软件，开发、实现并记录统计模型、计算工具和数据分析流程。

4. 撰写并准备向同行评议期刊投稿的学术论文，并在学术会议、研讨会和工作坊中展示研究成果。

5. 参与实验室组会、读书会、合作研究讨论，以及实验室和大学的其他学术活动。

6. 在适当情况下参与基金申请书、项目报告、数据文档、软件文档及其他研究成果的撰写和准备。

7. 维持透明、可复现且符合伦理规范的研究实践，包括规范的数据管理、代码文档、作者署名实践，以及遵守相关科研伦理要求。

8. 在聘期内，在PI支持下发展独立的研究方向与学术履历，包括发表论文、参加学术会议、开展合作研究，以及进行未来职业发展规划。
